OUR MISSION?
To increase the quantity and quality of life of the elderly, disabled and families by providing enhanced representative payee and other personalized services.
What does a Representative Payee do?
Lets first define two commonly used terms.
Beneficiary a person who receives Social Security Disability and/or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments. You, the client, are referred to as the Beneficiary.
Representative payee or substitute payee, is a person who acts as the receiver of United States Social Security Disability or Supplemental Security Income for a person who is not fully capable of managing their own benefits, i.e. cannot be their own payee. A Pearls Touch will be referred to as the representative payee. Also known as Rep Payee.
You, the beneficiary, will work with A Pearls Touch Representative Payee to create a personalized budget that itemizes expenses that will be covered. These items include basic living expenses such as food, shelter and utilities. Basic living expenses MUST be paid first. Other needs include:
-
medical and dental expenses
-
personal care items
-
clothing
-
rehabilitation expenses (if you have a disability)
After the above noted expenses are paid, we can use the rest of the money to pay any past-due bills you may have, provide dependence support, or provide entertainment funds for you. If there is money left over, A Pearls Touch will save it for you. Accurate records of your monies and how they are being spent will be shared with you in a monthly statement.
Is a Representative Payee right for you?
There are many reasons why the Social Security Administration (SSA), as well as other qualified benefit providers, recommend or require a representative payee for beneficiaries in need. However, in most cases it’s because of a perceived belief that a benefit recipient is incapable of successfully managing their money and or exhibits characteristics indicating a difficulty in meeting current and long-term financial needs. If you or a loved one is experiencing one of the following characteristics, you may benefit from a reputable organizational payee service:
-
Living with mental disabilities that impact the ability to read effectively resulting in an inability to comprehend or perform vital financial management tasks.
-
Tendencies that causes excessive and aggressive spending, which impacts the ability to meet short and long-term financial obligations.
-
Dealing with a drug or gambling addiction.
-
Parent responsible for a minor receiving government benefits.
-
Individuals who are suffering from memory loss, have a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) or due to age no longer feel equipped to pay bills.
To obtain a representative payee, qualified benefit recipients can propose a nonprofit organizational representative payee service provider, such as A Pearls Touch, who will work with the SSA on their behalf.
